What do I wear to a Yoga with Paula session?
Wear clothes that you are comfortable in and that allow you to move easily. A layer or 2 is useful as you will warm up and cool down throughout the practice.
Should I eat before practising?
It is ideal to practise yoga on an empty stomach; eat a meal 2-3hrs before your practice to avoid feeling any discomfort during the poses; yoga affects the inner body as well as the outer body!
If you are hungry before your session a nutritious smoothie, unprocessed snack or freshly squeezed veggie juice will give you sustainable energy to keep you going without putting strain on your digestion.
What if everyone else is more experienced than me?
There is no competition or comparison in Yoga with Paula classes so everyone works to their own level. Variations are given to ensure each person practises in a way that suits their understanding & experience.
I don’t know the names of the poses. How will I know what to do?
Guidance through Yoga with Paula sessions is clear minimal Sanskrit is used. Paula will show you the pose, describe it and guide you into it with helpful hints about how to get the most out of it. If you are interested in the language of yoga and the traditional names of the poses feel free to ask.
Is there a religious element to Yoga?
Yoga is not religious but many people use the healing practices of Yoga to support the spiritual aspects of their life. Yoga helps us feel more connected; to ourselves, to those around us and to the energy of the universe. Behind the physical practices that strengthen the body; there lies a deep philosophy that can guide us through this life.
What are the origins of yoga?
Yoga has been practised for several thousand years now originating in India & spreading across the globe. There are many aspects to yoga other than the physical practices that are most well known in western culture. The language of yoga is Sanskrit, a complex and beautiful & ancient language; Yoga with Paula classes are completed with the word “Namaste”- an acknowledgement that has many translations but that essentially means “My spirit greets your spirit”.
